  • Los Angeles Clippers forward Amir Coffey has been charged with two misdemeanors after being arrested in July when police found a loaded gun in his car.

According to TMZ, the Los Angeles City Attorney's Office has filed a count of carrying a loaded firearm and another of carrying a concealed firearm.

The 26-year-old Minnesota native was a passenger in a car that was pulled over in Hollywood around 2:30am on Sunday, DailyMail.Com confirmed in July.

Officers claimed they smelled marijuana, prompting a search, which uncovered a loaded gun. Coffey allegedly admitted that the firearm belonged to him and he was arrested for misdemeanor firearm possession.

Los Angeles County jail records show that Coffey was booked at around 5am and later released on his own recognizance.

Coffey was arrested in July near the intersection of Sunset Boulevard and Highland Avenue

Another passenger was cited for marijuana in a moving vehicle, according to police records provided to DailyMail.Com.

'We're aware of a legal situation involving Amir Coffey and are looking into it,' a team spokesman told DailyMail.Com in an email at the time.

Coffey has not spoken publicly about the incident but is expected to appear in court later in September on the matter.

Coffey could face up to a year in prison and $1,000 fine for the arrest, but that would be unlikely for a first-time offender.

Undrafted out of Minnesota, Coffey signed a two-way deal with the Clippers in 2019 and has since been shuffled back and forth between the NBA club and its G League affiliate, the Agua Caliente Clippers.

He averaged 3.4 points over 50 NBA appearances last season.

The Los Angeles City Attorney's Office "filed one count of carrying a loaded firearm and one count of carrying a concealed firearm against Coffey."

Of course, Coffey went undrafted out of the University of Minnesota in 2019. The former Golden Gopher has played 181 games with the Clippers over the past four seasons.
