Fortnite's NBA Skins Are About To Make An Insane Amount Of Money

Fortnite

Epic

We have heard this was coming for a while, but Fortnite's next big crossover deal is nearly here. Fortnite leakers (who else) have uncovered the promo art for the about-to-be-announced NBA crossover, which will involve all 30 NBA teams, similar to how the NFL deal encompassed all the teams in that league.

This is how this will kick off in two days:

"On May 21, players will be able to purchase NBA outfits for all 30 teams and can visit a "NBA Welcome Hub" in Fortnite's Creative Mode, where NBA-themed experiences and content will reside."

Like the NFL deal, these are not going to feature actual player likenesses or names, though you can obviously buy a jersey from your favorite player's team and put their number on it, if you like. It's pretty clear that doing likenesses for specific players would be a much more complicated endeavor than getting the logo rights from the league more generally, though allegedly there may be something in the works with LeBron James specifically as part of this event. But if there's a LeBron skin, it hasn't leaked yet.

Fortnite

Epic

This is a big deal because we actually have some sense of scale in terms of how big it's likely to be for Epic. As part of Epic's case against Apple, we got some data about how specifically the NFL deal did for them, and it was the third biggest IP crossover in the game's history, netting $50 million in revenue in just two months. The only two other IPs above it are Star Wars and Marvel, which have each seen multiple events over a long period of time.

Suffice to say this NBA skin event is likely to be one of the most profitable in Epic's history, and should easily come close to matching the NFL one, if not surpassing it, as the NBA has more global fans than the US NFL does, generally speaking.

This is likely to be announced in full pretty soon here, as these leaks tend to precede official announcements, so we'll have more details shortly. If LeBron is involved in this at all, perhaps that will be announced as well, but it's possible that may have been scrapped due to pandemic problems, that's unclear.

Regardless, this is going to be a massive revenue generator for Epic as they continue to expand their IP deals in previously unthinkable ways. The skins go live this Friday.

Fortnite's NBA Skins Are The Future Of Marketing

Fortnite is going live with another batch of licensed skins today, and it's looking to be one of its biggest crossover deals ever.

That would be a new collaboration with the NBA, where all 30 teams are getting officially branded jerseys in Fortnite, along with limited time basketball-themed events and contests in the game itself.

Why is this a big deal? It's one of the biggest brands in the world recognizing the power of Fortnite's virtual space, and because of the Epic V. Apple trial, we know exactly just how profitable it can be. In explaining its past collaborations, Epic revealed for the first time that it made $50 million in revenue from two months of selling NFL skins in a deal with that league.

Given the NBA's appeal to younger players (where the Fortnite playerbase is heavily made up of younger players) and the fact that the NBA has more reach around the world than the US's NFL, it stands to reason this will be an even bigger crossover and draw in more revenue than anything, short of maybe Fortnite's Marvel skins.

It's hard to think of a more win-win situation for all parties here, and this is why you are going to see almost every major brand try to land a deal like this with games (metaverses) like Fortnite in the modern era. Epic gets to sell a metric ton of skins and add to their growing metaverse IP list. The NBA presumably gets some sort of giant payment for the license or some revenue share from the skin sales, plus it serves as marketing for the league. Everyone makes out like bandits.

The skins are live today, so check the store.

The Fortnite x Fallout collaboration is something many players are hyped about. The collab was teased by Epic Games and is set to arrive with Chapter 5 Season 3. This will likely be the main partnership of the season, meaning that we can expect a Fallout skin in the next Battle Pass. Furthermore, we expect new cosmetics, map changes, new items, and much more.

Epic hasn't revealed a lot of information about the Fallout partnership yet. However, we do have some interesting details, which is why we put together an article that reveals what we know so far.

So far, the only teaser Epic Games posted regarding the Fortnite x Fallout collaboration is an image on X (formerly Twitter). Additionally, the game developer put the image in the game's news feed with the following caption: "Chapter 5 Season 3: Wrecked Courtesy of the Brotherhood of Steel. Chapter 5 Season 3: Wrecked comes to Battle Royale on May 24."

The caption confirmed the release date of the Fallout collaboration, which will be Friday, May 24. This is also the release date of the new Fortnite season, meaning that the collaboration will be available from the first day. While Epic hasn't revealed anything about it, we also expect a Fallout-themed skin in the next Battle Pass. This could be the Vault Dweller, Vault Boy, or another iconic character from the popular gaming franchise.

The teaser image, which can be seen above, shows a character wearing power armor. Due to this, we believe that this will be one of the upcoming Battle Pass skins. If this turns out the be the case, however, the skin may not be available immediately. Instead, Epic will make it unlockable in the second month of the season, which has been the case for the previous collaboration skins in the Battle Pass.

Besides the skin, the teaser shows a new Fortnite location. We currently don't know where it will be located, but it will certainly be popular. Furthermore, there is a chance that we will encounter a new boss at this location. Judging from the past, Epic may also release a new Mythic weapon or ability. However, this hasn't been confirmed yet.

With Fortnite Chapter 5 Season 3 coming on May 24, we will likely get more details soon. Epic Games will probably release new Fortnite teasers over the next few days, and some of them may give us more information about the Fallout collab.
