“The business acumen of Julius Erving was unbelievable”: Michael Jordan attributes his savvy business mind... - The Sportsrush

Image
Michael Jordan gushed about just how good Julius Erving was from a business side of things as that's what he took away from him.   There were very few people Michael Jordan looked up to in the sporting world. Walter Davis and David Thompson were a few of these men but Julius Erving was certainly on this list of his as well. A layman could tell by a simple eye-test that there were clear similarities between Jordan's game and 'The Doctor's'.   Well, the similarities end at the dunks in all honesty as Erving never really developed a mid-range game that was close to being as lethal as Michael's. However, when you thought about guys who made their bank on aerial battle, Julius Erving in the 70s and Michael Jordan in the 80s came to mind. Wednesday Headlines: New Basketball Jerseys Edition - A Sea Of Blue

Image
While the Kentucky Wildcats basketball season landed unexpectedly and way-to-soon, Big Blue Nation did have one wish granted this March. According to Kyle Tucket of The Athletic, the checkerboard jerseys have been eliminated from the Wildcats' uniform rotation. It is my understanding that the checkerboards have, in fact, been killed in the new iteration of Kentucky basketball's permanent uniform to be unveiled next season. That's one message that finally got through. https://t.co/meZUcV9lm0 — Kyle Tucker (@KyleTucker_ATH) March 22, 2022 To the point of Kentucky Sports Radio's Matt Jones, Kentucky hasn't won anything "since that nonsense started." The university unveiled the checkerboard-heavy uniforms back in the early fall of 2016 — the same season North Carolina crushed the hearts of Big Blue Nation in a 75-73 Elite Eight loss before going on to win the National Championship. Kentucky was arguably the best team in the tournament that year

Report: Michael Chandler vs. Tony Ferguson Eyed for UFC 274; Agreements in Place - Bleacher Report

Image
Jeff Bottari/Zuffa LLC The UFC is reportedly looking to schedule a bout between two struggling lightweight fighters on its May 7 pay-per-view card.  Per MMA Fighting's Damon Martin, Michael Chandler and Tony Ferguson have agreed to a match slated for UFC 274.  Martin noted both fighters are expected to sign the contract soon.  UFC president Dana White has been working on putting this fight together for some time. He said in January on ESPN+ (h/t Adam Guillen Jr. of MMA Mania) that the company was trying to get Chandler and Ferguson in the Octagon.  The match has been talked about even before this year. Chandler told Danny Segura of MMA Junkie in October 2020 that Ferguson turned down a fight against him that would have taken place at UFC 254.  Guillen noted that Ferguson confirmed the bout was offered at that time, but he turned it down upon learning that Chandler would get a bigger payout.  UFC 274 is expected to be he

NBA denies expansion report, but Seattle mayor says “odds are high” his city gets team - NBC Sports

Image
During the height of the pandemic, when NBA owners were losing money due to empty buildings, long-dormant talk of an NBA expansion to 32 teams gained momentum. NBA Commissioner Adam Silver even discussed it, and it felt like there was real momentum behind the idea, with Seattle and Las Vegas as the front runners. The owners are expected to take up the topic again this summer (although that agenda is not locked in). While league sources previously told NBC Sports some owners have cooled on the idea — they don't want to further divide the revenue pie, even for the short-term boost of a $166 million (or more) expansion fee check that would go to every team — Bill Simmons put the issue back on a front burner by saying on his podcast he had "intel" that the league would expand soon, and that LeBron James could have an ownership stake in the Vegas team after his playing days end. On Wednesday, a league spokesman denied Simmons' report to NBC S

The “LaBradford Smith” Game: The Time Michael Jordan Took it Personally - Fadeaway World

Image
Credit: CBS Sports The COVID-19 pandemic shut everything down for a few months. Times were tough for everybody, and many folks wondered if things would ever get back to normal. The one positive outcome of the shutdown during the pandemic would be that this was the moment the world discovered what happens when Michael Jordan takes something personal. The highly anticipated, The Last Dance, came out on April 19, 2020, and it took over the world by storm. Young basketball fans who never got a chance to watch Jordan play had their chance to witness the greatness of the G.O.A.T. and one of those traits was when someone "upset" his Airness. The Last Dance showed a few stories of when Jordan took it personally, but one story, in particular, is the topic of this article. The incident happened in 1993, against the Washington Bullets… LaBradford Smith It was March 19, 1993, and the Washington Bullets were in Chicago getting ready to play the two-time defending champion Bulls. 2022 NBA Mock Draft: Predicting both rounds after March Madness start - For The Win

Image
By Bryan Kalbrosky | March 24, 2022 3:35 pm ET Since my last mock draft, we have seen several NBA prospects excel while playing on the biggest stage in college basketball: March Madness. Although the tournament isn't over, after the first two rounds, scouts and executives around the league have potential draft targets they are falling more and more in love with. Meanwhile, as teams begin to get eliminated, many players are beginning to either declare for the draft while others are entering the transfer portal. Even though we don't yet have a full idea of who will actually turn pro when it is all said and done, the picture is becoming more and more clear. Several prospects were not included (Alabama's JD Davison, Duke's Trevor Keels, Michigan State's Max Christie, Michigan's Caleb Houstan, and UCLA's Peyton Watson) in this mock.
