Marshall Plumlee Update: The Big Guy Makes A Big Move - Duke Basketball Report

Image
Marshall Plumlee may be the most interesting Blue Devil ever. He came to Duke the least talented of the three Plumlee brothers, Mason and Miles far more gifted. They both won a national title too. Least talented perhaps but most ferocious. No one played harder or maxed out his talent more than Marshall Plumlee. In 2015, when Jahlil Okafor arrived, Plumlee willingly let him take the starting center spot. Good decision: he became the third Plumlee to win a national championship. The next year he took over the starting spot and was solid enough to get a shot at the NBA. Which he took - but only for awhile. After two years he decided to become America's tallest Army Ranger. And now? Now he's been accepted at Harvard Business School. Given everything he's done in his life and that he's surpassed expectations at every turn, we're sure he will at Harvard too.

ACC Announces Football Schedule Model for 2023-26 - The ACC

Image
Story Links GREENSBORO, N.C. (theACC.com) – The Atlantic Coast Conference announced Tuesday a new football scheduling model that will go into effect beginning with the 2023 season. The new model is based on a 3-5-5 structure whereby each team will play three primary opponents annually and face the other 10 league teams twice during the four-year cycle, once at home and once on the road. The schedule allows for each team to face all 13 conference opponents home and away at least once during the four-year cycle. The structure was adopted by the league's athletic directors and faculty athletic representatives earlier today. The new schedule will eliminate the Atlantic and Coastal divisions with all 14 schools competing in one division beginning in 2023. The top two teams based on conference winning percentage will compete in the Subway ACC Football Championship Game on the first Saturday

Brazil and Greece looking to defend titles at Beach Handball World Championships - Insidethegames.biz

Reigning champions Brazil and Greece will be gunning for glory at the ninth edition of the Men's and Women's Beach Handball World Championships set to run from June 21 to 26 in Heraklion. In the women's competition, the hosts will be defending their title from Kazan 2018 where they beat Norway 2-1 in the final. The upcoming event in Crete is set to be the first since then as the 2020 edition scheduled to take place in Pescara was cancelled as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic. Greece has been drawn into group A alongside Portugal, Mexico, and Thailand. "Playing at home will be really fantastic, the place will be beautiful, the courts will be full, and you can't imagine how much I am looking forward for the World Championship to start," said Greece's Magdalini Kepesidou. "Reaching the top of the world is easier than maintaining there, so I think our mission is harder than in Kazan but that doesn't mean that we will not give everything w

Refactor's gameplan for taking on Madden without an NFL license - GamesIndustry.biz

Image
Share this article When Electronic Arts secured an exclusive NFL license for its Madden franchise in 2005, fans of rival football games like the NFL 2K series were understandably upset. Most of them likely groused about the loss of a series they enjoyed and moved on. Refactor Games co-founder Nathan Burba was not one of those people. "I was a really, really avid NFL 2K player," Burba tells GamesIndustry.biz . "It was my game, the thing I looked forward to every single year, being a football junkie. When that ended because of corporations being corporations with an exclusive license which had never been done before, it was a big blow to me. I even wrote Game Informer back then and they published my angry letter about it. "That was always in the back of my head, and as I developed as a game developer, I always thought, 'When I get the opportunity, I'm going to make my own football game.'" Burba co-founded Survios in 2013 and served as CEO for its firs

Fight By Fight Preview | UFC 276: Adesanya vs Cannonier - UFC

Image
Billed as one of the top prospects in the sport upon arriving in the UFC from Cage Warriors, Garry impressed in his promotional debut, knocking out Jordan Williams at the close of the opening round at UFC 268 before dutifully working through a grind of a bout with Darian Weeks earlier this year. The 24-year-old remains unbeaten in his career and a work-in-progress in the cage, but the patient approach he's taking has produced noticeable improvements each time he steps into the Octagon. Called up on short notice in the spring of 2020 to face Daniel Rodriguez, Green lost that battle, but showed he deserved a place on the UFC roster, and since then, he's started working forward in the welterweight division. After out-hustling Philip Rowe in February 2021, the 29-year-old athlete returned at the end of April and bounced newcomer Yohan Lainesse from the ranks of the unbeaten, finishing the previously undefeated Canadian late in the second round. Garry still needs time to sharpen h

Terry asked for basketball tournament for 10th birthday - NBC Sports

Image
Dalen Terry "breathes, sleeps and cries" basketball. Those words came straight from the Chicago Bulls rookie's mouth during his introductory press conference on Monday morning. How deep is that passion rooted? So much so that, for his 10th birthday, Terry had only one request for his mother, Fenise Yancy: A 3-on-3 basketball tournament that he could headline. "I've loved basketball since I was born, honestly. I breathe, sleep, cry, everything basketball," Terry said with a smile when presented with that anecdote. "That's what I wanted to do that year. I mean, I played basketball every day, but for my birthday I wanted to play basketball again." Terry got his wish. Fenise, who sat stage left as her son recounted the event, even refereed. "She gave me all the calls that day," Terry cracked. That competitiveness is a big part of what attracted the Bulls to Terry, who the franchise selected 18th overall in the

Giannis Antetokounmpo: Warriors' core 'setting the example' for NBA - NBC Sports

Image
NBA stars around the league have tipped their hat to the 2021-22 NBA champions after the Warriors defeated the Celtics in the Finals for their fourth title in eight years.  Giannis Antetokounmpo didn't watch, but he didn't need to. He has been around long enough to know what the Warriors built to get to where they are today. And he's no stranger to the triple-threat trio of Steph Curry, Klay Thompson and Draymond Green, and has even shown admiration to the Warriors' Big Three on multiple occasions. "Congrats to the Golden State Warriors," Antetokounmpo said on ESPN's "NBA Today" on Friday. "It's been an unbelievable dynasty for them, for those three guys from where they started to where they are right now. It's been an unbelievable journey. For every team, for every player, you want to accomplish the same things like this. They're setting the example for us." It's not often that a team can keep t

Hogs Survive, Play Rebels in Decisive Game at 3 p.m. Tomorrow - Razorbacks Arkansas

OMAHA, Neb. – It took 12 games at the College World Series, but there was finally drama. Arkansas survived with a 3-2 win over Ole Miss on Wednesday night at Charles Schwab Field to set up a decisive third and final game against the Rebels at 3 p.m. tomorrow on ESPN2. The winner advances to the national championship series to take on Oklahoma, who advanced earlier on Wednesday after eliminating Texas A&M. The Razorbacks cruised into the bottom of the ninth with a 3-1 lead after tacking on an insurance run in the top of the eighth inning via an RBI single from Michael Turner. Back out to start his fourth inning of relief in the ninth, Evan Taylor gave up a leadoff single to Kemp Alderman before being replaced by Brady Tygart. The freshman struggled with command, hitting the only two batters he faced to load the bases. Zack Morris was summoned from the bullpen on short rest after starting against the Rebels on Monday and failing to get out of the first inning. Wednesday n

Ravens Honor Ozzie Newsome HBCU Scholars at Minicamp - BaltimoreRavens.com

A member of the Pro Football Hall of Fame, Newsome became the NFL's first Black general manager with the Ravens and has enjoyed a legendary career as both a player and executive. Now his legacy will carry on with these students. "We look for the students who have that potential, that drive, who may have overcome some hardships, and we know that student has everything they need to succeed," said Dr. Anthony Jenkins, President of Coppin State University who accompanied the Newsome Scholars on Thursday. "I'm very excited about this. I thought it was a great opportunity for the Ravens and our HBCUs to partner. The Ravens didn't want to just write a check. They are invested in expanding opportunities, and they want to make sure that finances won't get in the way of these students. "Our students, our city, and our state are the biggest winners. These young people are from Baltimore. Many of them watch the Ravens on TV every Sunday, but they've never be

2022 NFL rookie updates - Offseason notes, impressions on all 32 first-round draft picks - ESPN

Image
6:40 AM ET NFL Nation reporters With veteran participation often kept to a minimum during offseason practices in the NFL, it's only natural for attention to turn to the new faces and the rookies in particular. Eight teams didn't have a first-round pick in the 2022 NFL draft. For the 24 that did (obviously some with multiple picks), it was a chance to get a closer look at those players who personnel people believe can have a big impact. And, in many cases, sooner rather than later. We asked our NFL Nation reporters to keep a close eye on the first-round picks and how each fared this offseason, in organized team activities and minicamp practices. Did the Jaguars get it right by picking linebacker Travon Walker No. 1? Will cornerback Derek Stingley Jr. shut down half the field for the Texans? Can Drake London be the No. 1 wide receiver for the Falcons? Is Kenny Pickett the heir apparent at quarterback in Pittsburgh? Which of the pass-rushers and wide receivers look the part? These
