Rafael Stone: For right player, Rockets could trade into 2020 draft - Rockets Wire

Image
The Houston Rockets don’t currently have a selection in the NBA’s 2020 draft, owing to previous trades. However, that doesn’t mean they won’t eventually acquire one, according to new GM Rafael Stone. In a new Q&A with Jonathan Feigen of the Houston Chronicle , Stone said this about their status for the league’s Nov. 18 draft: We certainly wouldn’t mind getting into the draft, particularly if somebody becomes available we think will help us win now. We’re still in the win-now [mode], more than the develop four or five years from now mode. There are guys in the draft I think can play right away. We’ve had teams tell us they would be open to [a trade]. I think we probably can get draft picks if the right guy is there. New #Rockets at #TXSN – Q&A with Rockets’ new GM: ‘We’re still all-in’ https://t.co/VAAoQxoyzH — Jonathan Feigen (@Jonathan_Feigen) November 8, 2020 Besides using current players and/or future draft compensation to acquire a 2020 pick, the Rockets could als...

Rafael Stone says Rockets still have 'all-in' approach to offseason - Rockets Wire

Image
In the upcoming 2020-21 season, All-Star guards James Harden and Russell Westbrook will be 31 and 32 years old, respectively. Their aging curve has led some around the NBA to wonder whether the Houston Rockets might keep one eye on a potential rebuild in the years ahead. Per new GM Rafael Stone, that does not seem to be the case. In a fresh Q&A with Jonathan Feigen of the Houston Chronicle , Stone says the Rockets remain “all in” on a championship run, and with a clear emphasis on immediate roster upgrades. Among his comments: In our situation, lots of people want our players. That’s a great place to be. You have to make sure if you do something, it makes you better. I’m very optimistic the team is going to be very competitive. Whether it is rolling out the same guys and Steve [Silas] is trying to make tweaks here and there and using mid-level, that’s a way of being very competitive. Maybe there’s a deal or two that can help us. We’re going to be very aggressive. … We’re still...

James Harden Trade Packages Houston Rockets Should Actually Consider - Bleacher Report

Image
Ben Margot/Associated Press Just one day after Daryl Morey was introduced as the Philadelphia 76ers' new president of basketball operations, rumors of a possible James Harden reunion hit the cyber-waves. According to Stadium's Shams Charania, " Philadelphia is expected to be interested in and pursue James Harden." Of course, he went on to add that Harden trade proposals are likely to be met with an "emphatic no" from the Houston Rockets, which should come as no surprise. Harden is 31 years old and coming off his third consecutive scoring title. He's 12th in NBA history in career MVP shares. As long as he's a Rocket, the team figures to have a top-tier offense. Since he arrived in Houston in 2012-13, the Rockets are first in points per 100 possessions, second in effective field-goal percentage and sixth in net points per 100 possessions. Barring truly mind-blowing offers, retaining Harden for the back end of his prime would be the safer bet ...

NBA Rumors: This Magic-Rockets trade breaks up Harden-Westbrook duo - NBA Analysis Network

Image
Kim Klement-USA TODAY Sports There is one thing that is for sure in Houston— the James Harden and Russell Westbrook experiment has not worked. Now, the Rockets could be looking for a trade partner for one of their two superstars. Could this present an opportunity for the Orlando Magic to capitalize? If they decide to trade Westbrook, the Magic could be in for a huge blockbuster deal. Orlando is in an interesting position. They were the 8th seed in the Eastern Conference this season. That is a position they have been fighting for year-in and year-out but they have not been able to improve much beyond. The Magic could also look to tank and build some draft capital with Jonathan Isaac likely to miss all of the upcoming NBA season after tearing his ACL. However, trading for a talent like Westbrook would keep them competitive as he has shown to be able to carry teams to the playoffs before. As for the Rockets, they have developed their own style of play. They like to scor...

20 questions about NBA trade market: Will Bradley Beal, Chris Paul get dealt? Can Celtics make a real upgrade? - CBS Sports

Image
USATSI Last offseason saw Kawhi Leonard, Kevin Durant, Anthony Davis, Jimmy Butler, Paul George, Kyrie Irving, Kemba Walker, Chris Paul, Russell Westbrook and Mike Conley change teams. This year's list figures to be much less exciting, thanks to an underwhelming free-agent pool, but if there is going to be star movement, it will happen via trade.  As the 2020-21 season rapidly approaches, this is a look at the trade market in 20 questions: 1. Strike now or wait for the deadline? Everybody seems to believe the Washington Wizards intend to keep Bradley Beal and field a competitive team next season, but the assumption is that he might be made available before the trade deadline. Victor Oladipo's name is in trade rumors now, but the Indiana Pacers might be better off starting the season with him and hoping that he increases his value.  These are the same kind of decisions team face in a normal offseason, but this offseason is not normal. The NBA wants opening night to be...

Let's Get Crazy: 5 James Harden Trade Ideas for the Rockets - Complex

Image
It’s been an eventful 12 months for the Houston Rockets. It all started off with Daryl Morey’s infamous tweet that created problems for the NBA with China, and somewhat fittingly, finished off last Thursday with Morey stepping down from his position as general manager. In between the Rockets lost in five games to the Lakers in the second-round of the playoffs, head coach Mike D’Antoni opted to become a coaching free agent rather than return next season, and the pandemic hasn’t helped the pocketbook of owner Tilman Fertitta who is heavily invested in casinos, restaurants, and resorts. The eyes of the NBA world now turn to Houston, where many have wondered if they'll opt to blow things up now that Morey is out of town. Fact is, we really have no idea what the Rockets will do and the current roster doesn't provide much clarity on things. For the sake of getting crazy with the NBA offseason here, let's just imagine that they decided to hear out offers for James Harden. No ...

2020 NBA Offseason Preview: Houston Rockets - hoopsrumors.com

Image
Hoops Rumors is previewing the 2020 offseason for all 30 NBA teams. We’re looking at the key questions facing each club, as well as the roster decisions they’ll have to make this fall. Today, we’re focusing on the Houston Rockets . Salary Cap Outlook Nearly identical $41MM salaries for James Harden and Russell Westbrook will prevent the Rockets from opening up any cap space this offseason, barring a major roster shakeup. With over $123MM in guaranteed money already committed to just six players, Houston is in position to surpass the luxury tax threshold in 2020/21 unless the club cuts costs. For now, we’re assuming the Rockets will be operating with the taxpayer mid-level exception ($5.72MM) rather than the full MLE or the bi-annual. Our full salary cap preview for the Rockets can be found right here. Roster Decisions To Watch Options: Non-Guaranteed Contracts: Two-Way Contracts: Free Agents: 2020 Draft Assets First Round: Second Round: While it remains possible that ...

Rockets aren't expected to blow up roster, trade James Harden or Russell Westbrook, per report - CBS Sports

Image
Winslow Townson (USA Today) The Houston Rockets are in a fairly dire situation. They just got decimated by the Los Angeles Lakers in the second round of the playoffs. They'll have a new coach and a new general manager next season. They owe two first-round picks and two pick swaps to the Oklahoma City Thunder. Their two superstars, James Harden and Russell Westbrook, are now in their 30s and have hefty contracts still on the books. That isn't uncommon for Houston. They owe their top five players almost $120 million, and will almost certainly pay the luxury tax next season.  The future is not particularly bright in Houston.  With that in mind, there is an argument to be made in favor of kickstarting a rebuild now. Trading Harden would still net a significant return, but the longer they wait, the less likely that is to be true. Wait too long, and they might be stuck with aging versions of Harden, Westbrook and Eric Gordon that are no longer capable of contending. For now,...

Knicks could be interested in Russell Westbrook if Rockets decide to trade him, per report - CBS Sports

Image
The New York Knicks have been linked to just about every veteran star believed to be available on the trade market this offseason. Chris Paul and Victor Oladipo have already made their way through the rumor mill, and now, we can potentially add another name to that list: Russell Westbrook. According to SNY's Ian Begley, NBA agents believe that the Knicks "would poke around" on a possible Westbrook trade should the Houston Rockets make him available.  At this time, there is no indication that the Rockets plan to make Westbrook available. However, it should be noted that the Rockets aggressively denied rumors that they would consider trading Chris Paul in 2019. We all know how that turned out. On paper, there are a number of arguments in favor of a Westbrook trade. The best are financial. The Rockets owe around $118 million to only five players next season: Westbrook, James Harden, Eric Gordon, P.J. Tucker and Robert Covington.  While the extent of it is not fully kn...

Implied Volatility Surging for Rocket Companies (RKT) Stock Options - Yahoo Finance

Bloomberg The Unemployed Trader Who Became a $700 Million Exile (Bloomberg) -- When Sanjay Shah lost his job during the financial crisis more than a decade ago, he was one of thousands of mid-level traders suddenly out of work.Shah didn’t take long to get back into the game, setting up his own fund targeting gaps in dividend-tax laws. Within a few years, he charted a spectacular rise from trading-floor obscurity to amassing as much as $700 million and a property portfolio that stretched from Regent’s Park in his native London to Dubai. He commanded a 62-foot yacht and booked Drake, Elton John and Jennifer Lopez to play for an autism charity he’d founded.Fueling his ascent were what he maintains were legal, if ultimately controversial, Cum-Ex trades. Transactions like these exploited legal loopholes across Europe, allowing traders to repeatedly reap dividend tax refunds on a single holding of stock. The deals proved hugely lucrative for those involved -- except, of course, for the go...

Houston Rockets: 3 Trades that would ship out Eric Gordon - Space City Scoop

Image
Eric Gordon #10 of the Houston Rockets (Photo by Mike Ehrmann/Getty Images) Eric Gordon’s inconsistent season for the Houston Rockets shows that it’s time to explore potential trade options, but dealing with his large contract means they may have to give up more. It’s safe to assume that Eric Gordon‘s tenure with the Houston Rockets has been successful thus far. Capturing the NBA Sixth Man of the Year award in 2017, Gordon contributed solid minutes for the team right off the bat. Then Gordon was moved to the starting unit and his inconsistencies were exposed. For example, in a game against the Utah Jazz earlier this year, Gordon scored 50 points. He followed it up by dropping eight points and going 1-for-8 from deep against the Portland Trail Blazers. Moving on from Gordon seems like the right move in the upcoming offseason, but last year he signed an extension with the Houston Rockets and will count for about $16 million against the cap this year. That makes trading him more t...

Investors look ahead to Rocket Companies IPO, expected to price this week - Crain's Detroit Business

Image
Ground-floor investors of Rocket Companies Inc. have some significant tailwinds behind them as the Detroit-based mortgage lending giant finalizes its initial public offering, which is expected to happen as early as this week. Beyond being viewed as a mature, profitable company, the soon-to-be parent organization of Quicken Loans Inc. could be in the upper echelons of U.S. initial public offerings. Moreover, Rocket Companies' entry into the public markets appears to come during a ripe time, even despite broader economic pain such as skyrocketing unemployment and contracting GDP. Jay Ritter, an IPO expert and finance professor at the Warrington College of Business at the University of Florida, noted that average first-day returns on public offerings in 2020 are at 39 percent, their highest level since the dot com boom and bust of the late 1990s and early 2000s. Ritter cautioned that doesn't mean investors into the Rocket Companies stock should expect to cash out with four t...
