She's scored more varsity points than Damon Bailey. And you've never heard of her. - IndyStar

Show Caption Hide Caption Damon Bailey on his induction to the National High School Hall of Fame Damon Bailey was inducted into the National High School Hall of Fame following his iconic career playing high school basketball in Indiana. Tyler Kraft, Indianapolis Star She's scored more varsity points than Damon Bailey, and most high school basketball coaches and fans around Indiana have no idea who she is. She's not highly coveted by AAU teams. Forget about college coaches. Here's what they (and you) have been missing: Gloria Brewer is a senior for Indianapolis HomeSchool Wildcats, which isn't part of the IHSAA. They don't typically play big schools from Indiana, though it's not for a lack of trying. They don't get to play in the IHSAA state tournament, so she doesn't have a chance to shine on the big stage. Caleb Lohner, and the highs and lows of learning a craft | Opinion - Deseret News

Image
Caleb Lohner plays the guitar. Early on, as anyone close to someone learning a musical instrument will tell you, it can be pretty rough. Developing such a skill requires time and patience — both for the performer and for those around them. For Lohner, the guitar is not terribly different from basketball, where the 6-foot-8 BYU sophomore is still searching for consistency on hitting the right chords at the right moment. He still needs time and fans need patience. Thursday night, during the Cougars' late-game demise at Santa Clara, Lohner was sitting on Mark Pope's bench, where he spent the last 10:23 of the game. It hadn't been his night. He played just 13 minutes, missed all five of his shots, including a trio of wide-open 3-pointers, and gathered a meager three rebounds. BYU's best defender sat and watched Santa Clara score two layups in the last nine seconds to upset the Cougars 77-76. Lohner played small on a night when BYU needed him and his 6-8 frame

Image
The National Sport Day Committee has announced that all group sports activities and events to mark National Sport Day (NSD) this year will be held outdoors, after co-ordination with the Ministry of Public Health (MoPH). This came in accordance with the recent Cabinet decision and in co-ordination with the MoPH regarding the requirements and guidelines for sports activities and events in place to curb the spread of the coronavirus (Covid-19), the committee said in a statement yesterday. The statement explained that the number of participants in a single event must not exceed 15 vaccinated people, while they must not exceed five if the participants have not completed the vaccination doses, such as children under 12, provided that they show a negative Covid-19 result through a rapid antigen test within 24 hours before participating. Everyone must adhere to the safe distance of at least one meter all the time during the activity. The Committee called on all members of society who prac

Girls Basketball: Jersey Village's Lewandowski reflects on 100th victory - Houston Chronicle

The 42-year-old Corpus Christi native always had dreams about being a coach in a metro area city coaching at the Class 6A level. She has been through the ups and downs in her basketball career as a head coach and as an assistant, but Lewandowski wouldn't have it any other way. On HoustonChronicle.com: Cypress Woods' Michael Marucci named swimming coach of the year "I do look back on where I started from and how I got to where I'm at today," Lewandowski said. Fantasy basketball roundtable - Biggest draft hits and misses, favorite rookies, and more - ESPN

Jan 26, 2022 Fantasy staff Our team of fantasy experts -- Eric Karabell, Andre Snelllings, Eric Moody, John Cregan and Jim McCormick -- got together to go over some of the biggest talking points in the world of fantasy basketball. Here's what they had to say about their biggest draft hits and misses, favorite rookies and more. Which draft pick has worked out best for you this season? Snellings: My best draft pick this season has probably been Dejounte Murray. I got him with the 45th pick (ninth pick of fourth round, 12-team league) in one league and the 35th pick in another, but so far this season he's played like a clear first rounder that's edging toward the top-5. He's always been an all-around, defensive-minded guard but this season he's added shooting and scoring to become the complete package. 2 Related Karabell: I knew Philadelphia would have to go with Tyrese Maxey at the point, because last year's pouty, veteran, non-shooting point guard would refuse to

Blazers You’d Like to See Again Bracket: Kersey vs. Grant - Blazer's Edge

Image
NCAA March Madness is just around the corner. In homage to the great annual event we're running a Portland Trail Blazers bracket here at Blazer's Edge this month. The second round happens this weekend, and boy, are the choices getting tough! The idea came from an article from Dia Miller and Dave Deckard, detailing the Blazers they'd most like to see one more time. The piece was fun and well-received, so we're making a bracket of 16 candidates and letting you vote for your favorites. Eventually we'll see which player you'd most like to bring back for one more go. Here are the conventions: We're not including Bill Walton and Clyde Drexler, since everyone should want them back for overwhelming talent and impact purposes. They count as, "Anytime, Anywhere" legends. You can vote in the comments or on Twitter @blazersedge. We won't get as many votes that way as if we just opened a poll, but the discussion is important as well. You don'

Grading the 2021 NBA Earned Jerseys – The Daily Utah Chronicle - Daily Utah Chronicle

Image
Since taking over the NBA jersey contract in 2017, Nike has made it a part of their deal to reward an additional "earned" jersey to the teams who made the playoffs from the previous season. The following is a list of the 16 earned jerseys and a corresponding letter grade in response to the designs of these well-deserved uniforms. Grade: F The Sixers need to declare independence from these jerseys — this is one of the worst uniforms the franchise has ever produced. While this jersey is similar to last year's city edition, the oversized Liberty Bell just looks terrible as the center point for the jersey. What made last year's uniform so great was the simplicity of the blue cursive font spelling out "Philadelphia" on the cream-colored base. This took that idea and disrespected it worse than how the founding fathers disrespected King George III. Grade: C+ This jersey is by no means Philadelphia-bad, but it's pretty underwhelming for an orga

Sources Explain Why James Harden Would Welcome New Scenery Next Season - Bleacher Report

Image
Bruce Kluckhohn/Associated Press As the NBA calendar approaches the Feb. 10 trade deadline, word has circulated around the league about James Harden's increased interest in testing the open market this summer and how his impending free agency is impacting the Philadelphia 76ers' asking price for Ben Simmons.  In his 13-year career, Harden has never been a free agent. By all accounts, the former MVP has clear intentions to reach unrestricted free agency for the first time, even if that would lead him back to the Nets.  Harden remains invested in competing for the title in Brooklyn this season, according to multiple sources with knowledge of the situation. But Harden has recently informed several confidants—including former teammates and coaches—of his interest in exploring other opportunities outside of Brooklyn this summer, league sources told Bleacher Report.  "James isn't going to hold back," said a person familiar with Harden. "H

Amir Johnson Is More Than an Answer in N.B.A. Trivia - The New York Times

Image
His name was the last on a list that included LeBron James, Kevin Garnett and Kobe Bryant. But his biggest impact on basketball may be yet to come. Amir Johnson felt warm, either from the temperature in the room or the gravity of the moment. He removed his shirt. Johnson stayed nervous throughout N.B.A. draft night in 2005 as hour after hour, pick by pick, slipped past. Instead of planning for prom or making a final decision on his college destination, Johnson, at 18, was studying the television screen at his aunt's house as his professional future hung in the balance. The N.B.A. draft cut to a commercial as it neared its end. A ticker of draftees' names continuously sprinted across the bottom of the TV screen. Then someone screamed. The Detroit Pistons had just selected Johnson, out of Westchester High School in Los Angeles, with the fifth-to-last pick, 56th overall. The room, full of Johnson's relatives and friends, detonated. "We had horns and everything," John
