Kent State University's 'Rational' Approach to Extending Men's Basketball Coach Rob Senderoff's Contract - WKSU News

Image
Kent State University's longtime men's basketball coach Rob Senderoff will stay at the helm for another five years. Senderoff's contract extension was among the first moves under new athletic director Randale Richmond, who was hired this past April. An usual move WKSU's sports commentator Terry Pluto says it was an unusual move because most new athletic directors want to hire their own coaches. "Rob Senderoff had been there for 10 years. He was going into the last year of his contract, which actually was an option, so they could have probably gotten out of it. It would have been easy to dump him and go get whoever [Richmond] liked," Pluto said. Richmond is a graduate of Akron North High School, where he played football. After graduating from Baldwin Wallace University, he went on to graduate school at Kent State in 2004 to study athletic administration and began moving up the ranks. He then went to work as senior athletic director at Old Dominion University in

Image
He's a kid who's made Chicago proud, a multiple prep state champion who was named the nation's best collegiate point guard. And now he's a Chicago Bull. No, it's not Derrick Rose. But the Bulls Thursday in the NBA draft still got a good one with the 38th pick, Illinois' All-American Ayo Dosunmu. "It was an unreal feeling," Dosunmu told Chicago media via Zoom about being selected by the Bulls. "I was very excited. This was a milestone that I've been working on my entire life. So that moment right there, that was my hard work. It came out. "I know I'm a first-round talent," said Dosunmu, expected to be a late first round draft pick. "But you can't (ever know) what God has planned for you. And God wanted me to play for my city. So that's what I'm going to do. I'm embracing it. I'm grateful. I'm thankful to be in this position I'm in now. Now it's just about getting to work. I talked to Co

OU to the SEC: Where Does Oklahoma Basketball Fit Into the SEC Hierarchy? - Sooner Maven

Image
Oklahoma and Texas' impending move to the SEC has made ripple effects across the college sports landscape for the past 48 hours quite unlike anything in recent memory. The change this move will have on college sports is hard to overstate as the way we currently know them will be long gone as we head into a new era in collegiate athletics. Naturally, the main focus of the move has been lasered in on how this affects college football and what a new 16-team super conference will look like on the gridiron. But what about the other sports? SI Sooners took a dive into what the move will mean for Oklahoma softball and baseball already on Friday and now we'll do the same here with basketball. The Sooners enter the 2021-22 season under new head coach Porter Moser , who replaced Lon Kruger after he announced his retirement at last season's end. NBA executives think Lakers will attract ‘a ton’ of veteran free agents by landing third star - Silver Screen and Roll

Image
When LeBron James signed with the Los Angeles Lakers in 2018, there was this expectation that high-quality veterans throughout the NBA would flock to the west coast to compete for a championship with arguably the greatest player of all time. Unfortunately, that hasn't been the case. With the exception of Rajon Rondo, who re-signed with the Lakers for the veteran's minimum in 2019, there isn't an example of a player that took a meaningful discount to play with James over the last three years, and even then, it can be argued that the veteran's minimum was Rondo's value in 2019. The Lakers could have more success in that regard this summer, but that's dependent on whether or not they're successful in forming something that resembles a big three, according to Jake Fischer of Bleacher Report (via the Lakers Central Podcast): "The good news for the Lakers is that there is absolutely a large amount of talk from team executives around the league right now

It made me a better player': Iowa State's Blake Hinson eager to play basketball after season on the sideline - desmoinesregister.com

Adam Hensley, Des Moines Register Blake Hinson looked almost ebullient when asked a simple, yet often fraught question.  How's your health?   "I feel better than ever," said the Iowa State men's basketball junior who sat out last season due to an undisclosed illness. "I feel great. One-hundred percent.  "I'm clear. I'm ready to go." That's certainly good news for the Cyclones, who are looking to rebuild from a season that saw them go 2-22 overall and 0-18 in the Big 12 and ended with the firing of sixth-year coach Steve Prohm. Hinson, a 6-foot-7, 235-pound forward, would have almost certainly been a help, but instead was forced

Her American teammates held on for silver after the 24-year-old realized following a shaky vault that she wasn't in the right headspace to compete. "I didn't want to go into any of the other events second-guessing myself," Biles said. "So, I thought it would be better if I took a step back and let these girls go out there and do their job." Biles spent the final three rotations serving as a head cheerleader while Grace McCallum, Sunisa Lee and Jordan Chiles carried on without her. USWNT vs. Australia result: USA secures second place in Group G, quarterfinal berth after scoreless draw - Sporting News

By the end of the match, it was almost as if both sides were content with the scoreless draw. The U.S. women's national team and Australia tied 0-0, clinching second place in Group G for the USA, while Australia finish third and will be hopeful of advancing pending results in the other matches. A Sweden victory in the other Group G match clinched first place for the European side. The USWNT will advance to face the Netherlands or Brazil in a Friday quarterfinal, depending on their Group F results later this morning. A matchup against the Netherlands would be a rematch of the 2019 World Cup final. Should Australia go through as one of the two best third-place teams in the tournament, it would face Great Britain or Canada in a quarterfinal. While the seond half was a dull affair, both teams came close to scoring in the first half. By Tres Dea n July 21, 2021 Photograph courtesy Getty Images; Collage by Gabe Conte You could make the argument that the most influential moment in post-Michael Jordan NBA history didn't occur anywhere near a basketball court. That moment, of course, was The Decision—the TV special that a free agent LeBron James used to announce he'd be "taking his talents to South Beach" to play for the Miami Heat. It reshaped the landscape of the NBA, shifted the league's balance of power, and sent shockwaves throughout culture at large. It also led to one of the most coveted basketball sneakers of the last twenty years, the "South Beach" LeBron 8, which Nike is bringing back today for the first time since its original drop to commemorate ten years of The Decision. When the LeBron 7 dropped, James was in his seventh year with his hometown Cleveland Cavs. While not immune to scrutiny or criticism, the
