Iran sent emails intimidating American voters, US intelligence says - WZDX

Image
The Director of National Intelligence says there is evidence Iran has sent emails to intimidate voters in multiple states. Iran denies the allegation. BOSTON — U.S. officials accused Iran on Wednesday of being behind a flurry of emails sent to Democratic voters in multiple battleground states that appeared to be aimed at intimidating them into voting for President Donald Trump. The officials did not lay out specific evidence for how they came to pinpoint Iran, but the activities attributed to Tehran would mark a significant escalation for a country some cybersecurity experts regard as a second-rate player in online espionage. The announcement was made at a hastily called news conference 13 days before the election. The allegations underscored the U.S. government's concern about efforts by foreign countries to influence the election by spreading false information meant to suppress voter turnout and undermine American confidence in the vote. Such direct attempts to sway pub...

Israeli warplanes attack Hamas positions in Gaza Strip - Al Jazeera English

Image
Palestinian sources said Israeli military hit two agricultural areas in Khan Younis and Deir al-Balah. Israeli warplanes have carried out an air raid targeting Hamas positions in the besieged Gaza Strip, according to the Israeli army. Israeli army spokesman Avichay Adraee said on Twitter that the raids late on Tuesday hit a purported tunnel belonging to the Palestinian group Hamas, adding that the attack had been carried out in response to rocket fire from Gaza. However, Palestinian witnesses on the ground said two agricultural areas in Khan Younis and Deir al-Balah were hit by three missiles. Earlier, the Israeli army said a rocket fired from the Khan Younis area had been “intercepted by the Iron Dome” aerial defence system, without indicating if it had caused any casualties or damage. No group has claimed responsibility for the rocket, nor has any comment been made about it by Palestinian authorities. No information on casualties from either attack has been reported so far....

File photo of a Falcon 9 rocket launch from pad 40 at Cape Canaveral Air Force Station. Credit: SpaceX The National Reconnaissance Office has confirmed it will launch a payload on a SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket from Cape Canaveral later this month, a mission on SpaceX’s schedule that was not publicly disclosed until recently. A regulatory filing with the Federal Communications Commission recently revealed plans for a SpaceX launch from Cape Canaveral scheduled for Oct. 25. But details of the mission in the filing did not match any known launch on SpaceX’s schedule, raising speculation that the launch might carry a national security payload for the U.S. government. SpaceX has launched national security missions before that went unannounced until the final stages of launch preparations. The Zuma mission, a mysterious payload launched for the U.S. government in January 2018, was not publicly listed in any launch schedules or contract announcements until the final weeks before its planned ...

McHENRY, Miss. -- A south Mississippi county known more for the timber industry is looking to diversify. It has been vacant since 2012. The Stone County Economic Development Partnership has been looking for a new tenant since they left. A Long March-5 rocket took off under clear skies from Hainan Island, south of China's mainland, as space enthusiasts gathered on a beach across the bay from the launch site. "This is a kind of hope, a kind of strength," said Li Dapeng, co-founder of the China branch of the Mars Society, an advocacy group. He watched with his wife, 11-year-old son and 2,000 others on the beach. About 45 minutes later, launch commander Zhang Xueyu announced to cheers in the control room that the rocket was flying normally. "The Mars rover has accurately entered the scheduled orbit," he said in brief remarks shown live on state broadcaster CCTV. [embedded content] [Video not showing up above?
