Medical recruiting battalion workers earn recognition | Military Scene - Theredstonerocket
Two employees from the 2nd Medical Recruiting Battalion were recognized for the 2020 Medical Recruiting Brigade Civilian Employees of the Year during the Highlander town hall meeting Oct. 16.
Dave Reagan, recognized for Outstanding Professional Employee, and Scott Lange, recognized for Outstanding Program Specialist Employee, were chosen for exhibiting a high-caliber commitment to the Army Recruiting Command and its missions.
For 10 years, Reagan has been the heartbeat of the battalion’s School Recruiting Program. He began his journey in 1979 by obtaining his bachelor’s in history from Murray State University and in 1991, he obtained his master’s in psychology from Long Island University. Two years later, Reagan completed a program at the Command and General Staff College in Fort Leavenworth, Kansas. He also graduated from the Alabama Police Academy in 2001.
Because of his extensive educational background, Reagan has held important roles such as the team chief of the JROTC Program for 6th and 8th Brigade Cadet Command and the CEO and director of training for Guardian Police and Security Corporation. Prior to that Reagan finished his 20-year Army career as the provost marshal and director of public safety at Fort Rucker.
Reagan’s current efforts include implementing and maturing the School Recruiting Plan for the battalion. This program continues to open countless doors, such as the development of the Hospital Corporation of America Partnership and the execution of the battalion’s education tour. With his passion for service, which is driven by “a burden for the lost,” his mastery of systems discipline enforcement across 21 stations, and 40 years of combined service, Reagan says he owes this recognition and success to his team and leadership.
“It came as a surprised,” he said. “Anything I receive is because of the exceptional team and leadership I am a part of. I am so blessed.”
“Dave is known across the footprint for putting so much passion into his work,” Maj. Cameron Richardson, battalion executive officer, said. “He is such a valuable asset to our team does a great job at growing and developing our School Recruiting Program.”
Reagan is not the only team member recognized for their exceptional professionalism.
Serving as the information management officer for five years, Lange has maintained a continual focus on keeping the battalion’s IT equipment operations unmatched throughout the entire brigade. Lange obtained an associate degree in electronic system technology from the Community College of the Air Force in 2005 and is currently two classes from completion of a bachelor’s degree in information technology cyber security. In 2008 Lange completed the CompTIA Security-plus certification and has subsequently completed over 200 units of continuing education to facilitate four CompTIA Security-plus recertifications.
Prior to becoming the information management officer for the battalion, Lange has held multiple positions such as senior communications engineer for Communications-Electronics Command, battalion information management officer for Military Surface Deployment and Distribution Command, and Supreme Headquarters Allied Powers Europe help desk manager for 5th Signal Command. He also finished a distinguished 25-year Air Force career as communication site commander at Flobecq, Belgium.
Lange continues to focus on improving IT readiness across the entire Medical Recruiting Brigade and HRC. He successfully resolves over 400 user assistance requests and leads numerous technology projects including Purebred, Mobile Iron, and email-plus on government phones and network upgrades at all recruiting stations in the battalion footprint. Lange not only ensures the battalion’s IT equipment is maintained and operational, but he takes pride in helping the battalion become the first to complete every IT project, in a timely manner.
“I was certainly surprised. I just try to do my job well,” Lange said. “My favorite part is being in a position to help recruiters. They have a stressful job and many times technology problems add to that stress. My job is to minimize that stress and help them smile!”
“Scott is completely awesome,” Richardson said. “Our battalion is always first with any IT taskers that appear. Anytime there is a mission or an issue, he always goes above and beyond to take care of it.”
The Civilian Employee of the Year recognition program is designed to recognize outstanding civilian employees for each fiscal year. This award was based on employee accomplishments during the 2019-20 rating period. Outstanding employees are nominated for consideration in one of the five categories based on their position’s classification or supervisory status.
