Men's basketball falls to Hartford at buzzer 68-66 - Binghamton University Athletics

VESTAL, N.Y. — Senior guard Mantas Storpirstis swished a three-pointer from the corner as time expired, lifting visiting Hartford to a 68-66 win over Binghamton in an America East conference game.

The Hawks (3-10, 1-0 America East) led by eight at the half and stretched the lead to 11 with 3:06 to play before Binghamton rallied. Down 65-54, the Bearcats (4-7, 1-1 America East) went on a 12-0 run, fueled by four free throws from senior guard Mike Wright. Still down, 65-60 with 1:44 to play, BU forced back-to-back Hartford turnovers in a 23-second span. Junior guard Anthony Green converted a driving layup with 1:07 to play, and senior guard Jeffrey Daws tied the game at 65-65 with a three-pointer from the top of the key with 48 seconds left. After another Hartford turnover with 18 seconds left, Green was fouled away from the basket and converted 1-of-2 free throws. Off the second miss, Hartford raced down the floor and sophomore guard Ryan Stys found Storpirstis in the left corner.

Sophomore forward Deon Saunders led Hartford with 14 points. Junior forward Junior Amous added 11 points and freshman guard Charles Ford added 10 points. Junior forward Pierre Johnson contributed nine points and 11 rebounds before fouling out with 2:29 to play.

Binghamton put five players in double figures, led by Wright and seven-foot freshman center Nick Billings, who netted 14 apiece. Billings converted 6-of-7 and added four blocks in 23 minutes. Daws scored 12 points, junior forward Jeffrey St. Fort netted 11 points with nine rebounds, and Green wound up with 10 points.
