SARANAC LAKE — After a two-year hiatus, the Saranac Lake Youth Baseball and Softball Association is recently announced the return of the Memorial Day Classic on Monday.

The day's events will begin with the association's teams — T-ball, rookie, minors and majors baseball and softball — marching in the annual Memorial Day parade in Saranac Lake. Following the ceremony in Riverside Park, the Memorial Day Classic will take place from 1 to 5 p.m. at Elks and Rotary fields.

Baseball and softball games, a kids' home run derby/longest drive contest, wiffle ball at Little Fenway Park and a first-pitch ceremony will take place. Also, PorkBustersBBQ will have a food truck set up at Rotary Field.

The schedule for the day is as follows:

The home run derby/longest drive competition is open to all kids registered with the association for the season. Each player will get 10 pitches/balls.

T-ball players will compete to see who hits the longest drive.

Rookie, minors and majors players will see how many balls they can hit over fences at various distances. Prizes will be awarded to the top three finishers in each category.

Below is the batting order (times subject to change based on numbers of participants):

¯ 1:30-2:15 p.m., minors baseball

The association is looking for a few parents to help put up the wiffle ball field on Sunday and run the home run derby competition on Monday. If you are interested, or for any more information, contact Chris Knight at 518-637-5814.
