And, coming off a 101-win season and a playoff berth in 2023, fans can't wait to cheer on their Baltimore Orioles.
The equipment is already on its way down to the Orioles' spring training facility in Sarasota, Florida, two weeks before pitchers and catchers are scheduled to report.
Von Paris Moving & Storage trucks departed from Oriole Park at Camden Yards on Tuesday, beginning their 1,000-mile trip to Ed Smith Stadium, in preparation for the 2024 Spring Training season.
The trucks, which are carrying 320 uniforms, 300 hats, 200 helmets and 10 pitching machines, will arrive at the Orioles' Spring Training home early next week. About 800 cases of baseballs and 300 bats are also making their way to Florida.
The 2024 season will mark the club's 15th year at Ed Smith Stadium.
Orioles' pitchers and catchers are scheduled to report on Wednesday, February 14, with the first full-squad workout set for Tuesday, February 20.
Spring Training games are slated to begin Saturday, February 24.
The Orioles, the defending American League East champs, will open the regular season on Thursday, March 28, against the Los Angeles Angels at Oriole Park.
Top baseball prospect Jackson Holliday has a good shot at joining the Orioles this season, possibly on opening day, to continue building a young and talented team with Gunnar Henderson, Adley Rutschman and Grayson Rodriquez.

FAQQ: What is the best material for a baseball bat?
A: The most common materials for baseball bats are wood, aluminum, and composite. Each material has its own advantages and disadvantages. Wood bats offer a traditional feel and are required in some leagues, but can break easily. Aluminum bats are more durable, but can have a different feel and sound. Composite bats are a mix of both and can offer a larger sweet spot, but may not be allowed in all leagues.
Q: What size bat should I buy?
A: The size of the bat you should buy depends on your height, weight, and age. Generally, youth players should use smaller bats with a drop weight of -10 or -12. High school and college players may use larger bats with a drop weight of -3. It's important to try out different sizes and weights to find the one that feels most comfortable and allows for the best swing.
Q: How do I care for my baseball bat?
A: To extend the life of your baseball bat, it's important to keep it clean and store it properly. Use a soft cloth to wipe down the bat after each use to remove dirt and debris. Avoid hitting the bat on hard surfaces or against other objects. Store the bat in a cool, dry place and avoid extreme temperatures. If the bat gets wet, dry it off immediately to prevent damage.
ConclusionsAfter conducting thorough research and reviewing various baseball bats across different categories, we can confidently say that there is a baseball bat for every type of player and purpose. From wood to alloy steel, short to long, lightweight to heavy, the options are endless. Whether you're a beginner or a pro, looking for a bat for self-defense or baseball training, there is a perfect fit for you. We encourage you to explore the different options and choose the one that best suits your needs. Happy swinging!
Alternative Baseball Hits A Home Run For Autistic Athletes
Real World Baseball Competition Changes Lives
Playing for Community Integration event at Golden Park in Columbus, GA
Taylor DuncanTaylor Duncan is a man on a mission. There's no off season for the 28-year old Georgia entrepreneur and advocate, who is determined to make America's Pastime accessible to a historically underserved community – those on the autism spectrum.
Growing up near Atlanta, Duncan was an avid Braves fan, glued to the games on Ted Turner's Channel 17. His childhood dream was to stand at the plate with two outs in the bottom of the ninth and knock the game winning run out of the park. But, because of his autism spectrum disorder and the uneducated prejudices held by coaches, he wasn't given the opportunity to play competitive baseball.
He decided to do something about it and, in 2016, founded the Alternative Baseball Organization (ABO) as a means to help fulfill his and others' childhood dreams, through autistic-specific baseball competition.
"Growing up, I didn't have many opportunities to play the game of baseball," said Duncan, the organization's president, commissioner and CEO. "I had developmental delays when I was younger and was considered too much of an injury risk. Then, as you get older, teams become more 'select' oriented."
He began Alternative Baseball with six players and a few wood bats purchased from Goodwill. Soon there were two Atlanta teams. As word spread, interest grew and today there are 22 active ABO chapters in 12 states, with more on the way.
Founder, President and CEO of Alternarive Baseball, Taylor Duncan
Taylor Duncan AutismAbout one in 36 children has been identified with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) according to Center for Disease Control (CDC), and it is estimated that more than 5.4 million adults in the U.S are on the autism spectrum.
ASD is not a "one size fits all" condition. It affects everyone in different ways, and makes coaching an autistic-specific team sport a challenge. It can also be difficult to scout and find teens and adults who may benefit from the program, especially those who are transitioning from school into adulthood.
Explained Duncan, "The biggest thing I realized as I started this, is that a lot of autistic teens are going to be graduating out of their high school system. What services are going to exist for them after graduation?" he wondered.
Already marginalized, they can easily become disconnected and isolated, especially if they have not received services (vocational and educational) to prepare them for post-high school. Many fall through the cracks.
"We use baseball as a means to be able to teach what we need to in order to ensure that those in our program have a bright future," said Duncan.
And he makes a dire prediction. "If we don't, when baby boomers who have children with disabilities pass on, we'll have a terrible crisis on our hands. We need to be thinking of that now so we can all have a positive future."
Baseball is lifeThe baseball diamond is a safe place to learn how to navigate life, practice focus and decision-making, develop perseverance, learn how to work as a team, and build confidence to take into the world.
Duncan expanded on the concept of "baseball as life," that ABO instills in its players. "There are always good and bad days, sun or rain. Every game is different. We're going to have ups and downs; sometimes we win and sometimes we lose; we go through hot streaks and cold streaks, just like we do in real life."
He subscribes to Baseball Hall of Fame member Nolan Ryan's belief that, "Enjoying success requires the ability to adapt. Only by being open to change will you have a true opportunity to get the most from your talent."
ABO teaches that everybody on the team, on the field has an equal stake in the entire leadership process as to how the game is going to progress . Baseball is not a static environment. As in daily life, players must learn to adapt.
23-year old Sam Barrett is a regular ABO player from Auburn, AL, and has a strong appreciation for the physical and social benefits of baseball.
Sam Barrett, member of the Auburn Pilots ABO team.
Taylor Duncan"The chance to develop socially, mentally, and physically in distinguished settings is invaluable for so many people involved in ABO," he said, adding "It is a more-than-worthwhile endeavor and investment of time, money, and energy for all communities that choose to begin a program."
Real baseballAlternative baseball is authentic baseball. While many disabled sports programs are adaptive and feature major rule changes, the ABO stays pretty much within the confines of traditional Major League baseball rules, with only minor changes.
No on-field buddies partner with the players. Anyone over the age of 15 can participate, with no age cutoff, and all skill/experience levels are welcome. Teams may be same gender or coed. Those with all disabilities can participate but it's up to players and their families to decide whether ABO is the right fit for them.
Games are usually 7-9 innings, and pitchers may slow or fast pitch overhand, or still pitch off a tee. There is no pitch clock, but a 2.5 hour game time limit is imposed to keep up the pace. Base stealing, infield fly rule, the shift and four-pitch walk are all in play.
Duncan explained that Alternative Baseball uses the Japanese Kenko rubber baseball for the more experienced teams and a larger ball for beginners. The Kenko ball is the same size as a regulation baseball, but has more bounce.
"We want to make sure that everybody can enjoy the game at the level they are and where they want to get to."
Playing for community integrationThe ABO has been welcomed at many historic ballparks. This September, they will host a Community Celebrity Game at Birmingham's Rickwood Field, the oldest baseball stadium in America, that was home to the Birmingham Black Barons of the Negro Leagues. ABO athletes will play alongside and against celebrities and former pros in a traditional 9-inning game. The mixed teams offer a chance for invited guests to play alongside the autistic players, raising awareness and acceptance.
"Life is an undetermined number of innings," said Duncan. "And we may end up surprising people. We want to empower others too, and also have the same opportunities as everyone else."
Extra inningsDuncan and his staff have ambitious goals.Growing local programs, leadership training of its athletes, raising funds for equipment and travel, live streaming games, and developing indoor baseball programs for areas in which locals have no field access are among the top priorities.
Ultimately, however, lifting the perception, breaking the barrier and providing an opportunity where there's never been an opportunity before is the guiding mission of Alternative Baseball.
"We're all about giving the opportunity to develop skills and grow as an athlete and a person," said Duncan.
It won't be surprising when Duncan hits that game-winning home run. He and the other Alternative Baseball players can each say with confidence, "I am an athlete."
