Missouri Basketball Alum Caleb Grill Stats From First NBA Summer League Game With Chicago
Former Missouri basketball standout Caleb Grill got his first taste of professional basketball on Friday night, as he made his NBA Summer League debut with the Chicago Bulls in a 116-72 blowout loss to the Toronto Raptors in Las Vegas.
True to form, Grill took all of his opening six shots as a pro from 3-point range.

The Wichita, Kansas, shooting guard went 2-of-6 (33.3%) from behind the arc, accounting for all six of his points over 12 minutes on the court. He made a shot from each corner in his debut, both in the third quarter.
Grill was otherwise quiet on the stat sheet, ending the game with an assist, a turnover and no rebounds.
The former Tiger recorded a -17 plus/minus in the matchup, although no Bulls players finished better than -10 for their time on the floor.
Former South Carolina player A.J. Lawson led all scorers with 22 points for Toronto. Javon Freeman-Liberty led Chicago with 21 points.
Grill signed an Exhibit-10 deal with the Bulls shortly after going undrafted in the 2025 NBA Draft in June. An Exhibit-10 contract is a one-year, minimum-salary arrangement without a guarantee, and they can be converted into two-way contracts. Grill will be competing for a spot on either the Bulls or their G League affiliate, the Windy City Bulls.

The sharpshooting guard was one of two Tigers to earn NBA opportunities this year, as Tamar Bates signed a two-way contract with the Denver Nuggets. Bates scored eight points in his Denver debut on Thursday.
Former Mizzou forward Kobe Brown also is competing in Las Vegas, as he is expected to begin Year 3 as a player for the LA Clippers later Friday night.

Back With A Vengeance, Missouri Is A Legitimate Contender ... - Yardbarker
Not long ago, Missouri basketball was the laughingstock of the SEC, going winless in the 18-game conference slate and finishing the 2023-24 season 8-24.
Who are the Missouri Tigers under head coach Dennis Gates? He led the Tigers to the second round of the NCAA Tournament in his first season, but the second-season woes left much to be desired.
Mizzou is back with a vengeance this season, though. The Tigers are 16-4 overall and 15-0 at home, and they have racked up impressive wins over No. 1 Kansas and No. 5 Florida. Missouri's four losses are to No. 2 Auburn, Illinois, Memphis and Texas. All four are projected tournament teams.
Joe Lunardi's Bracketology has Missouri as a No. 6 seed. Mizzou's 5-2 start in SEC play is its best since joining the conference in 2012, but in a loaded conference with 10 ranked teams, the remaining schedule is a gauntlet, featuring six games against currently ranked teams.
If Mizzou is to continue its resurgence, it will need to continue three trends this season.
1. Score the basketball at a high rate
Mizzou is undefeated when scoring 80 points. The Tigers average 83.2 points per game, which is fifth-best in the SEC and makes them one of 60 teams in the country to average more than 80 points. While the 80-point threshold has led to success for Mizzou, it's not necessarily a requirement to make a deep run in March Madness. Four of the last 10 national champions averaged more than 80 points per game.
2. Hit the glass
Missouri is 11-1 when outrebounding its opponent. Its only loss was to No. 2 Auburn. In seven SEC games, Mizzou has outrebounded its opponent five times despite team rebounding being a weakness. The good news: The Tigers have found a way to win when they don't win the battle on the glass. Despite being outrebounded by Kansas and Florida, the Tigers prevailed.
3. Knock it down from deep
When Mizzou is on from three-point range, it's a tough team to beat. The Tigers are 12-0 when hitting eight or more three-pointers in a game. Caleb Grill is one of the best shooters in the country at a nation's-best 48% from deep. He's made at least three three-pointers in seven games this season, including two games with at least seven.
In a tough SEC, it's a good bet Mizzou will experience a few more bumps along the way, but Gates has his team competing in the nation's best conference. The win against Kansas was no fluke. Mizzou is for real, and the Tigers are a team to keep an eye on as March approaches.
