"I Wish You Did Have The First Pick": Travis Hunter Appreciates Urban Meyer's 'Generational Player' Remark

It's been a long time since college football has seen a true two-way player dominate both sides of the ball, electrifying audiences with his skill and versatility. But Travis Hunter is him—and even Stevie Wonder could see that the Heisman winner is a generational talent who has lived up to every bit of the hype.

Urban Meyer may be a controversial figure, but one thing he knows is talent. And in his eyes, Hunter is so special that he should be the unanimous first-overall pick in the draft.

"It'd be hard for me to not take Travis Hunter with the first pick. I love that guy. I think he is a once-in-a-generation, once-in-a-lifetime player. He can do things I've not seen people do. His stamina, the quality of the kid I've done some homework on him. We've covered him a few times."

The admiration is mutual. Hunter has great respect for Meyer and even wished he were still coaching in the NFL so he could draft him first overall. The Heisman winner expressed appreciation for Meyer's high praise and is determined to prove him right by taking the league by storm.

"I appreciate that. I wish you did have first pick so you could come pick me up. I would love to be coached by you. This just goes to show that at least believes in me. He was one of the people to go out there and speak it. So I appreciate it. I respect him going out there and speaking on me on a positive note. "

Meyer is not alone in his assessment. NFL draft analyst Mel Kiper too sees Travis as a "generational talent." He believes the Heisman winner has the star power to be the first pick. Kiper praised Hunter's football acumen and athleticism along with his toughness and unbelievable stamina.

"If you say generational talent, I'm taking Travis Hunter. If I'm looking at that, Travis Hunter is the guy, I think. He can be an elite receiver. He can be a heck of a corner, you can figure that out. What he does is effortless. You don't realize how fast he is because he's such a smooth athlete. He's so smart, he's so tough, his stamina, endurance levels are through the roof."

The Titans have been linked to Cam Ward but they wouldn't want to pass on a generational talent. Travis Hunter is the only generational talent in the draft. Many also see Penn State's pass rusher, Abdul Carter as a generational talent. There are also reports that Tennessee might be willing to trade down from the first pick and still take a QB.

They might not even trade and take Ward because they need a QB desperately. But the chances of the Heisman winner being the first overall pick are quite high.

Former Jaguars Safety Sends Heartfelt Message To Duval

Andre Cisco clearly enjoyed his first four NFL seasons in Jacksonville. The safety, drafted by the Jaguars in the short-lived Urban Meyer era, bid farewell to the team in the first few months of the Liam Coen era.

And in between, he helped Doug Pederson and the Jaguars to the franchise's first consecutive winning seasons since 2004-05. He went to social media on Saturday to thank the organization, Duval community and Jaguars fans.

"DUVAL— thank you for 4 of the most transformational years of my life!" tweeted Cisco, who agreed to terms March 10 with the Jets on a one-year, $10 million deal. "From ownership, to support staff, to my coaches, to our media team, and the special fanbase— I was immediately embraced by this city and organization.

"My teammates became my brothers and I'm forever indebted!"

Cisco, who turned 25 on Sunday, was born in Queens, N.Y., and played collegiately at Syracuse, so he returns to his home region in signing with Aaron Glenn and the Jets.

A 6-foot, 210-pound safety, Cisco entered the league as part of a 2021 draft class that provided a solid nucleus during those consecutive 9-8 seasons in 2022 and '23. Now, he's the only player selected over the team's first five selections that year who's no longer with the club.

The Jaguars in 2021 chose Trevor Lawrence No. 1 overall, then added his Clemson teammate Travis Etienne later in the first round at 25. They grabbed Tyson Campbell (33rd overall) at the top of the second round, then took tackle Walker Little 12 picks later. Cisco (65th overall) joined the team in the third round.

They've since signed Lawrence, Campbell and Little to contract extensions. After the 2024 draft, Jacksonville exercised the fifth-year option in Etienne's rookie contract, securing the running back's place on the 2025 roster.

Cisco started three games as a rookie before moving permanently into the starting lineup at free safety, a role he held over the last three seasons. In four years for the Jaguars, Cisco broke up 24 passes, including eight interceptions and a 2022 touchdown. He also recorded 1½ sacks and forced three fumbles.

To replace Cisco in the lineup, the Jaguars signed unrestricted free agent Eric Murray. No one believes they're done addressing the secondary, however, especially new general manager James Gladstone.

Urban Meyer Says There's A 'once-in-a-lifetime' Player Who Should Go No. 1 Overall In NFL Draft 2025: Buckeye Breakfast

COLUMBUS, Ohio — Former Ohio State head coach Urban Meyer has seen and coached a lot of talented players in his career, but there's a standout in this year's draft that ranks as one of the best.

Meyer said this week that he'd have a difficult time passing up former Colorado star Travis Hunter with the No. 1 pick in April's draft. The Tennessee Titans currently hold the selection.

"It'd be hard for me not to take Travis Hunter with that first pick," Meyer said on a show with Colin Cowherd. "I love that guy. I think he is a once-in-a-generation, once-in-a-lifetime player. He can do things that I've not seen people do. His stamina, the quality of kid, I've done some homework on him — we covered him a few times. He's big."

Hunter, the 2024 Heisman Trophy winner, had 1,152 yards receiving in 12 games for Colorado, along with 15 total touchdowns. On defense, he added 32 combined tackles with four interceptions and 11 passes defensed.

There haven't been many two-way players at the college level, but Hunter proved himself as one of the best offensive and defensive players in the game.

"I would never say this other than that guy," Meyer began, talking about Hunter's optimal side of the ball. "I'd play him both ways."
